Creating Space for Conversations That Matter

A platform bringing people together to raise awareness, challenge stigma and build partnerships that move mental health forward in Nigeria.

About TCC

Mental health is a conversation we all need to be part of.

Mental health affects how we think, feel, work, learn, build relationships and take part in our communities. Yet many people still find it difficult to talk about it openly or seek support without fear of judgement.

The Conversation Conference (TCC) was created to help change this. It is a mental health-focused platform that brings together people and organisations from different sectors to discuss mental health, share knowledge, build partnerships and identify practical ways to improve mental health and wellbeing in Nigeria.

We believe that improving mental health is not the responsibility of one organisation or sector. It requires government, private healthcare providers, humanitarian organisations, educational institutions, professionals, communities and individuals to work together.

Our journey

From providing care to bringing people together

As our work expanded, we saw that treatment alone was not enough. People needed information, families needed guidance and communities needed space for honest conversations about mental health.

2011

Our journey in mental health care begins

Synapse Services, our first treatment centre, opened in Abuja at a time when access to specialised mental health and drug rehabilitation services was limited.

Growth

Expanding our reach

From one centre, our work grew to nine treatment centres across Nigeria. Along the way, we recognised the need to complement treatment with public awareness and education.

10 Oct

Making World Mental Health Day count

We wanted to use 10 October, World Mental Health Day, as an opportunity to help people learn about mental health, challenge misconceptions and reduce stigma.

2022

The first Conversation Conference

We saw the need for a shared platform where government, private providers, humanitarian organisations, academics and educators could meet, exchange ideas and discuss ways to strengthen Nigeria's mental health system. This led to the first TCC at Sandralia Hotel, Abuja.

Today

A platform for dialogue and action

TCC continues to grow as a space for learning, networking, partnership and practical conversations about the future of mental health and wellbeing.

What we do

Turning conversations into opportunities for change

TCC creates room for different perspectives and encourages people to move beyond talking about the challenges to exploring what can be done.

01

Raise awareness

Make mental health easier to understand and encourage open, informed conversations.

02

Reduce stigma

Challenge harmful misconceptions and help create an environment where people feel safer seeking support.

03

Bring sectors together

Connect government, healthcare, humanitarian, academic, education, business and community stakeholders.

04

Build partnerships

Create opportunities to share knowledge, identify common priorities and work together.

05

Encourage practical action

Support discussions that can inform services, programmes, policy and community-level initiatives.

06

Include new voices

Encourage young people and communities to contribute to more supportive and inclusive environments.

Our vision

A society that understands mental health

A society where mental health is understood, valued and prioritised, and where everyone can access the support they need without fear of stigma or discrimination.

Our mission

Connecting people for better outcomes

To create a platform for meaningful conversations, knowledge sharing and cross-sector collaboration that advances mental health awareness, strengthens partnerships and contributes to better mental health and wellbeing in Nigeria.

No single organisation has all the answers. Progress happens when we listen, learn and work together.
